About this course

SAFEGUARDING CHILDREN — LEVEL 1 | CHILDREN’S HOMES

SAFEGUARDING CHILDREN

LEVEL 1 | CHILDREN’S HOMES | ENGLAND

Learner course • Practical, age-appropriate residential care • Review edition

WHO THIS IS FOR Residential childcare workers, relief staff, night staff and other adults working in an Ofsted-regulated children’s home. Suitable as introductory awareness, not a substitute for induction, supervision or specialist safeguarding training.

Course overview

Safeguarding is not a task reserved for a designated lead. It is the way adults notice when a child may be unsafe, listen without judgement, protect the child, share concerns with the right people and continue to offer predictable care. In a children’s home, these responsibilities sit alongside everyday activities: getting ready for school, bath time, family contact, play, bedtime, visits, and interactions between children.

This course uses children aged 6, 8, 10 and 12 in realistic fictional examples. It explains the responsibilities of front-line staff, not how to investigate abuse or make statutory child-protection decisions. You will practise recognising concerns, responding to disclosures, recording what matters, and following the home’s reporting and escalation arrangements.

By the end you should be able to distinguish safeguarding from child protection; recognise possible abuse, neglect and contextual harm; respond calmly to a child’s words or behaviour; report promptly; and protect a child’s dignity, rights and voice during and after a concern.
